Four Death Row convicts, disguished as guards, sawed and bluffed their way out of Georgias maximum security prison Mon day at Reidsville, Ga. Prison officials first learned of the escape from a reporter who got a telephoned “news tip” from one of the four fugitives. The Rutherfordton Little Lea gue team defeated Forest City in extra innings Monday afternoon at Harmon Field in this area championship. They were to have played Cherryville Tuesday afternoon for the District Championship with the winner going to the State Semi-Finals. Several people have indicated that they would like to send a contribution to the Boy Scout Troop 222 (handicapped boys) who are earning money for a trip to Disney World. N C. 28782 WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, 1980 Park Dedication Here From Mexico Set For Aug. 10th The dedication for Woodland Park has been set for Sunday, August 10th al 4 p.m. in the parking area off Chestnut Street, (behind Hearthstone Inn). The park of 10 acres was given to the Town of Tryon in 1954 by C. Manfred and Sallie S. Gottfried. Bob Gibbs is chairman of the Woodland Park Committee which includes Bill Martin, Lou Pettit, Dr. C. W. McCall and Mayor Ken Tucker. Technical assistants have been Mrs. Garland W. Reese, Paul Culberson and Harrison Holmes. Meets Tonight The Polk County Community Arts Council will meet Tuesday night at the Town Hall in Columbus at 7 p.m. Hipp Reunion Sun., Aug. 3 The Hipp family will have a family reunion on Sun., Aug. 3rd at Harmon Field in Tryon. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. "EASTER ISLANDS" AT ROTARY FRIDAY The Tryon Rotary Club will meet Friday at 12:30 p.m. al the Pacolet River Plantation. Clyde Slocum of Brevard will present a slide program on the "Easter Islands." Miss Rosita Molina Rosita Molina from Oaxaca, Mexico has arrived and is living with Mr. and Mrs Carl Meroney of Colum jus, N. C. She has three sisters, Flor, age 18; Patricia, age 14; Adriana, age 7; and one brother Arturo, age 15. Rosita will be a senior this fall al Polk Central High School. Her extended educational plans are to study medicine. She likes to play tennis, read, jog and swim and she had a Cub Scout troop in her home town of Mexico. Rosita states the reason she applied for an AFS student is "I would like to learn a new language, have an opportunity to meet more people, learn customs of other countries and to be able to show to everybody the traditions and customs of Mexico.” Albert Booker has returned to Fort Riley, Kansas after spend ing his furlough with his family in Tryon. 16 Pages Today Price 10c Per Cop: Landrum Health Center The Landrum Health Center is opened every Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to given immunizations.
